Along with Reiki, I've used Flower Essence Therapy for myself for decades. Whenever I had a big presentation to make, a few sleepless nights, or lost someone dear to me, I would stop by the health food store for a little yellow bottle of Dr. Bach's "Rescue Remedy" or an individual flower essence like "Star-of-Bethlehem", which I often recommended to anyone dealing with loss. "You'll still feel sad, but you'll be able to get out of bed and function."
Now, I've learned a great deal more about the hundreds of flower essences available and how they help with complex emotional pressures at every stage of life. Flower essences can help with healing: -difficulties around attachment at birth -anxiety and defiance in children -problems with pets -the stress of exams and grades -coping with job and life changes -eco-anxiety and environmental sorrow -preparing for a beautiful and meaningful transition from this world into the next. I'm so happy to add this useful and powerful modality to my healing practice now, when we are bombarded with accelerating changes and challenges. We can find calm and peace, despite the energy of our times, and Nature's flowers are showing us the way. Like Reiki, flower essence therapy pairs well with other medical treatments including psychotherapy or counseling, chemotherapy, diabetes care, pharmaceuticals and surgery, as well as other complementary modalities like acupuncture, chiropractic care and cranial sacral therapy. As a flower essence therapist, I help clients decide which chronic or urgent emotional pressures need attention first, and I identify the energy of specific flowers to create a custom blend the client will use for the first 2-3 weeks. As the client responds and makes changes, we will meet 5-7 times over a few months to monitor progress and refine the formulas, which can be made alcohol-free, for external use, or for children and animals. From July-December, 2023, I'm completing my certification with the Flower Essence Society by recruiting 6 clients for case studies. The cost to clients will be minimal, only to cover the cost of materials and shipping. The therapy itself will otherwise be complimentary for these first 6 clients, in exchange for completing the process. Clients participate by: -attending 5-7 online meetings, about 60 minutes each, flexible hours -taking custom blends of flower essences daily for the duration, as recommended -completing all intake forms and waivers -tracking progress in journals -sharing journal entries, dreams, drawings and photos to illustrate progress -writing a detailed testimonial at the conclusion -If client is a minor or a pet, parents and guardians will complete paperwork and contribute observations. Yes, really.
To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Reiki in 2022, I am offering free group healing experiments online. I use Reiki and guided intention meditation to lead you to the exact moment or aspect of your life that's ready to be healed now. These experiments are relaxing and uplifting, and some have reported transformative healing experiences. Here's what past participants have said. "Healing Our Ancestral Lineage" October 30, 2022 "Thank you again for an amazing, group experience...with the amperage from the group, I had such a needed, healing journey. It explained so much in this lifetime that it opened my heart with compassion even more. The Knowing and the understanding that it brings is everything for forgiveness to happen. Thank you for this gift of Knowing and Forgiving." -JO "Healing Our Family Field" September 14, 2022 "I just hung up from a phone call with my estranged sister...We talked quite a while... It actually gave her some clarity about things she's wondered about, and she couldn't stop crying." --ND "My ex-husband...had this experience some days ago where his whole body was vibrating when he was sitting in a restaurant. He couldn't figure out what was going on. It was so powerful and overwhelming that he energetically grounded himself which eased the vibration. I queried him as to what day and time that he felt this energy surge. He was able to tell me the exact timing of this event...it was just during our healing session. I had been sending energies to each of my family members' chakras including him. "--SL "Healing Our Relationship with Nature" June 19, 2022 "During the meditation, the Sun came down and entered my hip with healing energy. I was able to sleep pain free that night." --AJ "Healing Our Past" June 1, 2022 "In 2017, I was hospitalized and the doctors said I was going to die. They were wrong. Tonight I went back to that moment in time and healed myself." -- FT Future Event: "Healing Our Past Lives" Date: Saturday, January 21, 2023 Time: 2:00pm US Pacific Where: online via Zoom Free; must be registered by January 20 at 5pm Pacific. It will take a miracle to save the remaining native birds of Hawaii, for instance. I believe anyone can be a part of that miracle. Reiki and other forms of energy medicine combine well with intention to create changes in human behavior and in the natural world. Soon, I will train Reiki practitioners to help animals, plants, and ecosystems like lagoons and forests, as well as simple intention practices for those without Reiki training. Both work, and both can be done remotely. You don't have to leave your house to help solve the challenges of climate change. If you would like to receive email notices about training and events, please email me at [email protected]. Be well, Daphne The more I practice Reiki, the more I enjoy exploring how intention complements energy medicine.
A few years ago, I was inspired by Lynne McTaggart’s book “The Power of Eight” to create a meditation group to experiment with healing intentions for my Reiki clients. We’ve met weekly to conduct more than 200 intention experiments. An intention experiment, as envisioned by McTaggart, consists of eight to twelve people meditating on a single “target” for 10 minutes. Our group has meditated on surgeries and hospitalizations, job searches, court cases, anxious pets, chronic illnesses, real estate transactions, contract negotiations, and acute mental health crises. We’ve witnessed many healings, many successes, many breakthroughs. I think of the group as a magnifying glass. We’re not the source of healing energy, but we gather and multiply the “light” to focus it like a laser beam on the recipient. This “energy input” results, more often than not, in significant improvements, faster recovery times, and sometimes, astonishing transformations. Not only does the recipient generally experience healing or success, but we meditators also benefit. We have our own healings, our own successes, our own breakthroughs, as part of what McTaggart calls the “mirror effect” of the Power of Eight meditation. Intending good for others does us good, too. I now ask all of my Reiki clients to create a healing intention before our sessions. As I offer Reiki energy, we can both envision and “energize” the desired outcome, along with other healing possibilities. You can create your own healing intentions, too. Here’s what I am intending for you, whoever you are, wherever you are, whenever you read this: “It is my intention that you find joy and beauty in your life, and remain healthy and well in every way.” With love, Daphne Since March of 2020, I've "seen" all my Reiki clients either online or remotely from my office. Sometimes clients like to be on a call or online with me. Others just want to lie down and relax during our session, free of the phone or computer. Both work equally well.
Recently, I experimented with giving a short burst of Reiki to a group of 5 people at once on a Zoom call. From my California office, I felt "big energy" during the session, especially when I focused on the group at large. I noticed a more delicate energy when I concentrated on individuals for a few moments each. An artist in Chicago, a Reiki Master herself, called it "a very powerful experience", and felt as if I was physically in the room with her. Reiki transcends time and space. Energy healing is equally effective at a distance. The recipient doesn't have to be able to hold a phone or know how to Skype. We set an appointment when the client can rest, relax, and heal, whether at home or in the hospital, literally anywhere on Earth. Advanced training in Reiki empowers practitioners to address a person's emotional state. I hope to explore the use of Reiki in urgent situations, such as accidents, psychological emergencies, police standoffs, evacuations, terror attacks and natural disasters, where acute pain and trauma will have long lasting effects. I predict that someday, Reiki practitioners will be hired as first responders, working alongside medical personnel, law enforcement, mental health professionals, and social workers. The earlier healing begins, the better, and since Reiki can be from a distance, it can begin immediately. (Yes, you can call me for emergency Reiki, AFTER you've dialed 911!) I also predict that someday, physicists will be able to explain why distance healing--both physical and emotional--is possible. In the meantime, I'm enjoying helping others even in the midst of a pandemic, working safely from home. Be well, Daphne It’s possible.
Your doctor may not tell you she’s administering Reiki, and she certainly isn’t billing your insurance company for it. Surgeons, nurses, emergency room physicians, EMTs…more and more medical professionals are now using the gentle power of Reiki to heal and comfort patients. Dr. Oz, the cardiac surgeon and television host, calls Reiki a “remarkable healing practice” and sometimes includes Reiki master Pamela Miles in his operating room. Miles is the author of “Reiki: A Comprehensive Guide” and her website https://reikiinmedicine.org/ is an excellent resource for exploring Reiki specifically as a complement to modern Western medicine. Andrew Weil M.D., among the first physicians to promote integrative medicine in the U.S., recommends “Reiki to enhance medical treatments” in his advice to cancer patients. Cancer patients often have complicated treatment protocols—chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and more—along with the stress of a life-altering diagnosis. Reiki complements any medical treatment, and offers significant stress-relief and relaxation, a crucial part of healing and recovery. I recently assisted a Reiki master teaching a two-day workshop. Participants included a marriage and family therapist, an herbalist, a physician’s assistant, a veterinarian, and an oncologist. All were determined to become more effective healers by adding Reiki to their therapeutic skills. Energy medicine will someday be recognized as an important part of any medical treatment. If your doctor has been trained in Reiki, she is helping to improve the practice of modern medicine. And lucky you! You are already reaping the benefit. Be well, Daphne . Not yet.
However, just as coverage for chiropractic care and acupuncture are now included in many health care plans, I predict that the value of energy medicine will one day be recognized by insurers. After all, many doctors, surgeons, and nurses have already added Reiki healing to their therapeutic tool box. It’s practical, always “at hand” and the anecdotal evidence is overwhelming: Reiki works. Is there any science to back up the claims of so many patients and medical professionals? Yes, and there will be more. Around the world, researchers are examining the underlying physics of energy healing. In “The Energy Healing Experiments”, Gary E. Schwartz, PhD and his colleague Dr. Ann Baldwin test whether rats in noisy environments could benefit from Reiki. What’s wrong with noisy environments? Noise is stressful for rats, and it’s not all in their heads. The tiniest blood vessels in their bodies—microvascular capillary beds—are damaged by stress “as evidenced by increased leakage of blood molecules.” If stress can make a rat’s blood vessels leaky, what can stress do to human beings? They tested rats in four conditions: No Noise; Noise; Noise + Reiki; and Noise + ‘Sham Reiki’, in which an untrained person mimicked Reiki gestures. Rats in a noisy environment experienced a 600% greater incidence of leakage from their blood vessels. Yikes. When given “Sham Reiki”, the rats experienced only a 420% increase in leakage. Interesting effect, but rats in a noisy environment that received actual Reiki fared much better. Reiki limited the damage to only a 240% increase in leakage, versus 600% with noise alone. Good news for stressed out rats, and good news for stressed out people. Schwartz and Baldwin wondered whether Reiki could help people suffering from inflammatory bowel problems such as Crohn’s disease and colitis, known to be made worse by stress. Can Reiki help a leaky gut, as it did the rats' leaky blood vessels? Their work with rats is promising, and I hope other researchers expand upon their experiments, because the effects of stress are not all in our heads. Reiki works, and scientists are exploring both the how and the why. Someday we will understand the physics behind Reiki healing, and insurers will enthusiastically offer coverage for gentle, non-invasive Reiki. Until science catches up with us, you and I can enjoy the stress reduction, pain relief, and healing benefits of Reiki now. Be well, Daphne What does it feel like to receive Reiki energy?
During sessions, my clients have reported feeling:
Some clients feel so relaxed during Reiki that they drift into restful sleep, and generally awaken refreshed. If you are short of sleep, stressed out, or anxious, a Reiki "nap" can be very beneficial. Be sure to let your Reiki practitioner know if she should let you sleep. If you feel groggy after a session, ask for her to help "ground" your energy. You may also enjoy Reiki as a contemplative experience, or even a meditation session. As I concentrate on the energy centers of your body (the major chakras), you might feel a deep release of tension, or a flowing of energy, in addition to relaxation and pain relief. Sometimes, memories or emotions come to the surface. You might make a connection between a past emotional upset and, for example, persistent tightness in your neck or shoulders. As a massage therapist once told me, "The issues are in the tissues." You can use your Reiki session to actively listen to your body, to pay attention to quiet messages that are easy to ignore in our busy, everyday lives. Reiki energy healing is both practical--reduce pain and swelling, speed healing--and mysteriously subtle. It can be the best nap of your life, support you before and after surgery, or it can help you get to the bottom of a nagging worry. Are you ready for Reiki? Be well, Daphne When I first learned about Reiki, I was skeptical but intrigued. It sounded both ridiculous and too good to be true. And yet, for the past seven years, I've used Reiki energy on many, many people to quickly and gently ease their pain and suffering.
Reiki is a form of energy medicine from Japan that gently balances the body's natural life force ("ki" in Japanese) to facilitate healing. It can help with pain, anxiety, inflammation, and promote the repair of wounds. To be clear, it's not me doing the healing. I'm channeling a powerful energy through my body and sending it out of the palms of my hands to help people, animals, or plants. (I'll be writing about Reiki and plants in an upcoming blog.) Here are some of the ways I've used Reiki over the years:
One of my favorite ways to use Reiki is on airplanes. I travel a lot, and often find myself seated near families. When fussy babies start to cry, I offer Reiki energy. So far, every baby has become calmer and quieter within a few minutes, often sleeping through the rest of the flight. I find myself using Reiki every day. It's fast and effective. It's easy and always conveniently "at hand". And, it's a joy to be able to ease another's suffering. Be well, Daphne |
